Transforming Lives in Rwanda
Thursday November 25 - Sunday December 5
Operation Open Heart is returning to Rwanda for the 5th time. The team of 40 volunteers have all donated their time and expertise to help Rwandans with no access to cardiac surgery, and are aiming to give 25 Rwandans the gift of surgery that will totally transform the lives of the patient and their family. These medical professionals spend every day saving lives, and are now giving up their spare time to travel and do the same for free!
Since the beginning of Operation Open Heart in 1986, over 90 similar adventures have taken place all over the world and more than 2800 patients have received surgery. Without Operation Open Heart many of these patients would not have survived, and at best most would not be able to lead active and productive lives that they are now leading.
With no government funding currently available for the Rwanda visit, we rely on the support of civic minded individuals and companies to support the work. Each operation costs the team a minimum of $2,500 and increases depending on the complexity.
